Julie Cortés Freelance Rockstar
Julie Cortes has worked as a freelance copywriter and proofreader in the advertising / marketing industry for over 20 years, working with hundreds of clients and accounts along the way, including big ad agencies such as Bernstein-Rein and VML, design shops, large corporations like H&R Block and Payless ShoeSource, and small businesses.

Cortes thrives on being an active member of the professional community, having spent her entire career volunteering, serving on boards, and attending networking and educational functions. She is asked regularly to present on the topic of freelancing, and has been interviewed on multiple occasions by newspapers, magazines, TV and radio shows.

And while she's won more than her fair share of awards (50+) for copywriting that certainly add some sparkle to her office, she's best known for starting The Freelance Exchange of KC (www.FXofKC.com) — a professional trade organization of 'solopreneurs' in the advertising and marketing industry.

Cortes is the proud recipient of the Community Freelancer Award, given out at the Freelancers Conference 2017 at the first-ever national Freelancer Awards. She's also won two Stevie Awards for Women in Business in 2017: Innovator of the Year, and Organization of the Year (Non-Profit).

As of late, she's taken her love of the freelance life to the classroom in an effort to teach young artists the tools they need to survive on their own by creating her own course, Freelancing 101, and teaching as an Adjunct Professor at the world-renowned Kansas City Art Institute.
