We changed the rules of kicking off a conference … we play ... and drink a little. The signature #FREECON Cooler is always served along with beautiful food and other refreshing beverages.

The ROI of Connecting

What is the ROI of your connections?

Referrals are essential for freelance entrepreneurs to stay busy. Networking is perhaps the oldest forms of referral marketing yet most freelancers are networking wrong. We network, but we don't really connect. This leads people to feel as though networking doesn't work. In my experience, it's how you do it that makes the difference.

Networking - The Power of Making authentic connections
Limited Capacity filling up

Gathering people for a conference is expensive and complex. And after all that effort to get people in the same room, so often everyone either sits quietly staring a PowerPoint presentation, or they mingle with the people they already know, and no one does the main thing they have come there to do: build new relationships.

Get attendees up on their feet, moving, talking, and laughing together. Using games and activities from the world of improv, we provide a fun, interactive experience for your attendees. With all the giggles from our entertaining exercises, it will be hard to tell that your participants are actually breaking down barriers, forming new relationships, and becoming more open to new ideas—especially the ones at the rest of the event.

Learning Outcomes include:

  • A bonding experience, especially between newer and older attendees
  • Gaining a foundation of positivity and agreement in interactions
  • Participants opening up and sharing about themselves
  • Enhanced communication
  • Ability to Think on your feet
  • Learn how to effectively brainstorm
  • Connecting with the audience
  • Use of language and humor
  • Body language, non-verbal communication, and presence
  • Using Story to Engage Customers

Approach networking with more joy!

The Energetics of Succesful Life & Work (or You Can’t Create Successful Life and Work with a Sick Up Your Ass)
Limited Capacity filling up

Expansion or Constriction.  Being in business for ourselves is exciting and difficult at the same time. While it creates freedom, it can also be so stressful that we end up blocking our own success from the inside out.

The brain is a tricky mo-fo and it can be our biggest asset or our biggest block.
I will speak on the unconscious ways we block our ability to succeed even if we do great work and how we can begin to rewire the brain for more success.
I will share ideas on how audience members can release the subconscious constriction that causes stress and blocks creative and financial flow.
Audience members will come away with strategies for consciously and intentionally cultivating an openness of being that enhances their work, income, and lives.
We will also do some coaching for the audience around the ways they block their own success. Even if one person is coached in a hot seat session, all the members will benefit.

The Art of Subcontracting
Limited Capacity filling up

Subcontracting seems to be a mysterious art form few freelancers have mastered. But why? There's no better way to supplement your client workload. Dana Marruffo, principal of Buzz Public Relations and LuAnn Glowacz, owner of WordCove are seasoned pros known for blazing trails on their own; but they credit subcontractors and subcontracting (often for each other) as a key to their long-standing successes. Small business attorney Emily Morris advises business owners and freelancers on the best methods to protect everything they have worked so hard to build, which often includes solid contractor agreements.

Moderated by Jenny Magic, Senior Digital Strategist at Springox, join Dana, LuAnn and Emily for a candid panel discussion that will unveil key elements to establish respectful, lucrative and supportive relationships with subcontractors to help grow your freelance business.

Attendees will walk away knowing how to better:

  • Communicate and negotiate contracts, including what terms to define and when to do so.
  • Understand how, when and why to use subcontractors or to make yourself available as a subcontractor.
  • Manage a team of subcontractors with clients.
  • Charge fees and scale projects.
  • Foresee and handle challenges to prevent mistakes from happening multiple times.
  • Plan for the unexpected.

Make Networking Fun Again!
Limited Capacity seats available

Freelancers have many avenues to build their client pipeline. But, for those looking to build an organic and local presence, networking is crucial. What an outside perspective may see as fun, trivial, and easy, it often feels stressful, meticulous, and daunting! Don’t let your experience change your perspective. Make networking fun again!_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_
Networking is intentional, but if you plan, practice, act naturally, and give it a little patience, it will work every time. Networking will never feel more successful, or more fun, than when connecting with people and watching your project pipeline grow!_x000D_
_x000D_
This session is focused on condensing years of networking experience – both successes and failures – into an overview of an approach that works and how to set realistic expectations. I’ll cover real-life examples, methods that worked (and didn’t), and observations about the characteristics of interactions I’ve seen fail repeatedly. Most of all, I’ll explain how successful networking can be FUN, especially when you’re well prepared, realistic, and approach networking the way it should be: natural and enjoyable.

Intuitive Creativity for Teambuilding
Limited Capacity seats available

In an IBM survey of more than 1,500 chief executive officers, creativity was ranked the number one factor in determining success in business. When Dr. George Land was hired by NASA to develop a test of creativity, the test worked so well that he decided to give it to 1,600 children. Ninety eight percent of the children, ages 3-5, tested as creative geniuses. By adulthood, that number fell to only 2%. People get so inhibited and controlled by their inner critic as they move through life that they lose the ability to play and create.

This creative inhibition can affect many aspects of their life and business, as they are less willing to take chances and think of new solutions. Fortunately, creativity is a skill that can be cultivated and nurtured. This workshop will lead you through a mixed-media collage exercise aimed at waking up your creative spark and helping you to find more clarity and space to reconnect with your creative genius.

How to Build (and STAY IN) your Business as a Non-Nine-to-Fiver™
Limited Capacity filling up

Building a business you are truly passionate about can feel daunting and even terrifying at times. Knowing that it will be sustainable and successful with 100% certainty may seem impossible . . .

Question after question can fly through our minds at light speed and are enough to STOP us in our tracks -

  • Can I really do this? Will it really work?
  • What if I'm just not cut out for this?
  • What if I am not credible enough?
  • What if people don’t want to invest in my product or service?
  • What if I’m disorganized?
  • Can I really build a business being like this?

Join Jen Shultz, Founder of The Non-Nine-to-Five™ as she takes you directly into the low level habits that plague new business owners and shares exactly how to STOP the swirling and twirling that the mind loves doing so you can find your ideal clients, feel more confident, generate more money, and experience ease as a business owner.

Jen will be sharing The 4 C’s Method she designed and created as a result of her own struggles (like depressions and anxiety) after leaving a full time job in 2010 and starting her own business.

Participant Takeaways:
  1. Participants will begin to see that their own thoughts are what control their own outcomes in their businesses and there is in fact, NOTHING outside of themselves that can STOP them from creating the success they want.
  2. Participants will understand the power of COMMITMENT and how, when used properly will provide enormous support on their business building journey.
  3. Participants will understand what they are (or aren’t) doing that is directly slowing down their business growth.
  4. Participants will hear specific stories about those I have worked with directly using the 4 C’s Method and learn how they too can stop the swirling and twirling the mind does.

How to Build a Big List of Prospects to Fuel Your Freelance Success
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Today, successful large companies, small businesses, and entrepreneurs understand the business-sustaining benefits of building big lists of prospects and customers to support their long-term success. Yet, many freelancers are not leveraging this proactive approach to launching and sustaining their businesses, including getting paid what they are worth. Instead, they rely on not-always-targeted networking, reactive referrals, low-paying job sites, random luck, and hopeful prayers. All methods can work some of the time. However, no other approach to finding new quality clients who pay fair rates works as well over the long-term as building a big list — and intelligently working the list.

This session will cover three main topics:
  • What a "big list” is and why it’s the best way to build a freelance business
  • How to build a big list of highly targeted freelance prospects
  • How to work your list to stay in touch with prospects and turn hot prospects into customers

Am I Living My Purpose?
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

“Having a strong sense of purpose can have a powerful positive effect. When you have a sense of purpose, you never get up in the morning wondering what you’re going to do with yourself. When you’re ‘in purpose’ – that is, engaged with and working towards your purpose – life becomes easier, less complicated and stressful.”  Psychology Today

Sometimes in life, we choose to follow our intuition and go into work that aligns with our purpose.  Or not.  Yet our purpose is always present, creating a feeling of flow and ease when we choose to align, even in some small aspect of our lives.  Our purpose is sometimes simply a faint thought that whispers, “This is what I should be doing.”

Maybe the job and career you chose are no longer fulfilling, your finances seem to be out of control, or you’re in a relationship that doesn’t feel right.  You might even start to question your very sanity or existence on this planet. This is the time to look within to discover what our values are & how they show up in our lives or not.

If this resonates with you and you would like to gain more insight, join us.  A panel of coaches will share several different ways to listen to, align with and expand your purpose to become integrated into your business endeavors, and all facets of your life. We will share stories and techniques we have used in our own lives to help you connect to your true purpose.
