Kathryn “Kat” Davis, TexTESOL III Sociopolitical Concerns/Advocacy Chair has a Criminal Justice degree and a paralegal certification, along with more than 15 years as a paralegal and a lifetime passion and strong advocacy skills to serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.  A focus upon immigration issues began decades ago with experience for several years at the Documentation Exchange (UT) and Pro-Bar (Harlingen) researching and documenting crisis situations of fleeing asylum seekings from Latin American. Her mantra of “sharing your voice” carried over to her radio show called Beyond Words Live! (a violence hotline, as well as being a victim’s advocate and a CASA advocate. Familiarity with the legislative process (both in Texas and D.C.) comes with stepping up on mental health, education, disability, children’s safety, lymphedema medical authorization change, patient advocacy, and an array of other issues — most recent representing teen suicide (Texas having one of the highest teen suicide rates in the U.S.). Currently teaching adults ESL in Austin and Citizenship in Round Rock, and aspiring to continue teaching ESL/Citizenship, along with working in an immigration law firm. Ms. Davis also represented TexTESOL III in Washington DC this June 2018.
